A romantic getaway in the heart of the rainforest

1/4

Woodland’s Rainforest Retreat is so secluded the only thing to come between you and your respective other will be the sound of chirping birds. This secret hideaway for couples is nestled deep in the heart of the rainforest (yet only 1.5 hours from Melbourne) and offers a series of architect-designed, self-contained cottages.

Each cottage offers a split-level plan and features an open fireplace, a fluffy bed, and a sunken spa overlooking the fern gully. Keeping sustainability in full sight, the cottages are constructed using local materials including polished mountain ash floorboards and myrtle beech benches.

A taste of French romance for your romantic getaway

1/4

While Paris may be referred to as the city of love, La Perouse in Lorne brings a little slice of French romance to Victoria. Named after the French explorer, it comes as no surprise that La Perouse B&B lends itself to a French style. Think all the typical suspects: wicker furnishings, soft tones, and wooden doors that open out onto a private balcony. For those looking for that much-needed dose of amour, we guarantee this place will deliver it.

Situated on a hill overlooking Loutitt Bay, La Perouse offers five individually-designed suites that perfectly balance natural textures and bright, decorative accents. Bathrooms are the standout with European vanities, English tapware, artisan floor tiles, and a walk-in shower – divine! Come morning, you can enjoy a breakfast of freshly squeezed OJ, yoghurt pots, and baked baguettes.

A charming cottage getaway

1/4

With its century-old trees and rolling hills, the Dandenong Ranges simply beckons a romantic weekend away. In its heart, you’ll find the charming Clarendon Cottages.

The three self-contained cottages are scattered throughout an English country garden and offer period features reminiscent of a scene from a classic love story. Think Pride and Prejudice meets Gone with the Wind. Wood-panelled walls give way to antique furnishings, while crackling slow-combustion fires add the final dose of romance. Get intimate by making use of the double spa bath, and pop open some bubbly.

A romantic getaway with charm

1/3

Como Cottages has been a family-run and owned business for 25 years, and offers various weatherboard cottages that evoke the charm of early Australia. We’re talking wood panelled walls and ceilings, earthy tones and textures, and plenty of corrugated iron!

Each cottage has its own charm, but we have to admit that our favourite is the Como Cottage. Arguably the cosiest of all, Como Cottage offers an open-plan design, a two-person corner spa, and an outdoor deck with a table and chairs.

A dose of sexy luxury

1/3

Affectionately referring to itself as an adults-only place of ‘sexy luxury’, how could you say no to a romantic stay at Drift House? The classic bluestone building houses four, individually-designed rooms. Bright colours and bold patterns are paired with industrial exposed stone and brick, and somehow it all works together splendidly.

Alongside their unique style, rooms feature a deep stone bath, an open fireplace, and a library filled with a selected collection of books. If things are getting a little steamy, head to the outdoor swimming pool and cool off for the afternoon. Looking for more inspiration on the Great Ocean Road.
