One of the most well-known wine regions in Australia, these Barossa Valley accommodation options will have you craving a roam through the vineyards.

When it comes to city backyards, we have to say Adelaide is pretty fortunate to have the Barossa Valley. Just an hour’s drive out of the city, the Barossa is teeming with unique restaurants and wineries, including the revered Penfolds.

The region is also home to some gorgeous B&Bs and hotels that inspire a weekend away. Whether you’re travelling in numbers, or it’s just you and your +1, we’re certain these Barossa Valley accommodation options are going to have you packing the car and heading straight to the countryside.

The quintessential Barossa Valley accommodation

1/3

Nothing quite fits the narrative of an Australian weekend getaway more than a stay at Jacob’s Creek Retreat. Positioned in the middle of an expansive garden dotted with native gum trees, the stone cottage offers boutique B&B Barossa Valley accommodation. All rooms and suites are unique in design and are individually named. For larger groups, we recommend going for the Orlando Suite, which offers two king bedrooms and a very enticing deep soaking tub.

If you’re a die-hard cheese fan, you’ll be pleased to know the retreat can organise a tasting plate, which includes artisan cheeses from the Barossa Valley Cheese Company. Alternatively, take a splash in the retreat’s solar-heated infinity pool that overlooks the surrounding vineyards.

Barossa Valley accommodation with panoramic vineyard views

1/4

Are you ready to experience some of the best panoramic views the Barossa Valley has to offer? If so, we suggest pencilling in a stay at Abbotsford Country House. Set on the top of a hill, overlooking rolling vineyards, Abbotsford Country House is the kind of place where you can breathe in the country serenity. Follow a gravel pathway lined with standing roses, then be greeted by hosts Julian and Jane.

Enter your suite through French doors, and be welcomed with a provincial aesthetic of antique furnishings and a soft blue and cream colour palette. If you’ve come to the Barossa with the plan to do some wine tastings, we advise you not to begin on an empty stomach! At Abbotsford, you can start your morning the right way with a cooked breakfast served in the main dining room.

Picturesque lakeside cottages in Tanunda

Although Stonewell Cottages and Vineyards is just a three-minute drive from the centre of Tanunda, a stay here will make you feel as though you’ve escaped it all. This picturesque B&B offers three different cottages which are set on the edge of a lake, in a private vineyard. Cottages feature king bedrooms, spa baths, and wood fires, as well as a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates upon arrival.

Even if you’re not much of a wizard in the kitchen, you’ll be inspired by what’s on offer at this Tanunda accommodation. Think a black granite benchtop, Miele appliances, and a fridge that’s stocked with fresh local produce and self-preparation breakfasts. During the day, take one of the rowboats out on the lake or otherwise pamper yourself with an in-room massage.

Luxury Barossa Valley accommodation

As far as luxury retreats in the Barossa go, The Louise is one of the frontrunners. Owners Jim and Helen Carrekar believe that luxurious Barossa Valley accommodation should be paired with a remarkable food and wine experience, and The Louise does just this. Rooms are decorated in a distinctive boutique style, all the while maintaining the vibe of an up-market Australian country guest house. Here, you can appreciate a private terrace, gas log fireplaces, and a marble ensuite featuring a hot tub.

But it’s not just the rooms that are the standout here. The in-house restaurant, Appellation, is one of the state’s most coveted restaurants, and it comes as no surprise. Head Chef, Ryan Edwards has developed a menu that celebrates freshness, seasonality, and regionalism. Wash everything down with a selection of wines that are paired with each course by the resident Sommelier.
