Best accommodation in Byron Bay for the ultimate coastal getaway

Sun, sand and sea—Byron Bay is the ultimate beach break destination and we've rounded up the best accommodation options to make it the perfect trip.

Thirty years ago Byron Bay was known as the alternative lifestyle hotspot of Australia. Today, thanks to gentrification, the area is now a hub for boutique resorts and a thriving arts and culture scene. Many of Bryon Bay’s best resorts and accommodation are situated in the hinterland surrounding the township and are only a short walk from the beach.

A luxury boutique hotel in Byron Bay

1/4

Over the past year, this former motel has been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel, taking its inspiration from the style of New York’s Bowery district.

Choose from 14 suites, a barn, a cottage and a family house. Both the cottage and family house are suitable for larger groups, and maintain their privacy from the rest of the property. The Bower Barn is ideal for an intimate couple stay, with its centrepiece being the bathroom and its full glass ceiling.

Minimalist interiors incorporate a mix of white washed walls, offset by wood, brass metals and original artworks. Light-filled rooms are spacious, and open out onto gardens landscaped with flora typical of the region.

A unique hut experience on the outskirts of town

1/3

Nestled on the edge of the Cumbebin Swamp on the outskirts of Byron Bay lies The Garden Burees. The property is home to a number of different huts, varying in size and design.

The most impressive is the aptlynamed Grande Buree, which is less of a hut, and more of a two-story mansion. Sleeping up to seven people, the Balineseinspired hut features a gourmet kitchen, outdoor entertainment area and plunge pool.

Those after a romantic weekend away should opt for the Garden Burees. Each of these features a mezzanine bedroom overlooking a private garden, an outdoor shower and spa.
