Byron Bay’s newest boutique hotel, The Bower

By , September 6, 2017

Bangalow Road in Byron Bay is home to a number of classic beachside shacks and motels. You would be forgiven if you were to drive down it and not notice number 28. That is of course while the property was still home to a run-of-the-mill coastal motel.

Taliah Lowry and her team of architects, designers and decorators have gone about changing all of that. Over the past year the motel has been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel, taking its inspiration from the style of New York’s Bowery district.

Accommodation here is varied, with 14 suites, a barn, a cottage and a family house. Both the cottage and family house are suitable for larger groups, while maintaining their privacy from the rest of the property. The Bower Barn is ideal for an intimate couple stay, with its centrepiece being the bathroom and its full glass ceiling.

Although The Bower take its cues from New York, that typical ‘Byron’ feeling hasn’t been lost. Minimalist interiors incorporate a mix of white washed walls, offset by wood, brass metals and original artworks. Light-filled rooms are spacious, and open out onto gardens landscaped with flora typical of the region. The beach is a short walk away, as are some of the best coffee shops in Byron.
