Momi Bay: Check out Fiji’s newest overwater bungalow hotel

Ever dreamt of staying in an overwater bungalow? Don’t have the time or money to travel to the Maldives, Mauritius or Bora Bora?

Fiji is the perfect destination for overwater luxury without the hefty price tag.

Marriott Hotels has recently opened Fiji’s first mainland hotel to offer overwater bungalows, and it’s not as pricey as you might expect. The five-star Fiji Marriot Resort Momi Bay is situated on the beaches of Momi Bay, less than an hour’s drive from Nadi International Airport.

Overwater luxury in Fiji

1/4

Luxury here comes in the form of an overwater villa. Perfect for couples, each villa has its own balcony, leading straight out to the sapphire water of Momi Bay. Free-standing bathtubs, huge TVs and even bigger beds fill out the decadent rooms.

Interiors feature open-plan spaces that take advantage of the stunning scenery. Traditional Fijian design is blended with timber and crisp, white colours to create a minimalist feel. There is good news for larger groups too – many of the deluxe rooms on the mainland can be interjoined to create larger suites.

Three on-site restaurants offer the best of local Fijian cuisine, in addition to international flavours. Check out Goji Kitchen & Bar for breakfast and fresh homemade juices. Choose from the aptly-named Fish Bar for a seafood feast, or the Lagoon House & Bar for cocktails from the swim-up bar.

Make use of the paddle boards and snorkel gear to explore the surrounds, or relax at Quan Spa before enjoying the adults-only infinity pool.

Want another Pacific Island destination that offers overwater bungalows?

If Fiji is too close to home, here’s one more overwater bungalow accommodation that will tempt you to choose the South Pacific over the Indian ocean.

Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea offers up a boutique hotel experience on the French Polynesian island of Mo’orea. Choose from overwater bungalows, beach bungalows, and traditional hotel rooms.

With a full-service spa, a coral nursery and the largest infinity pool on the island, rest and relaxation are easy to come by at this resort. Make sure to make use of the hammam at the on-site Manea Spa, or if you prefer staying active, organise a game of volleyball or go kayaking.

Indulge in French and Polynesian cuisine at the Mahana’i Restaurant for lunch and dinner. Our pick is the roasted Mahi-Mahi fillet on its pumpkin and coconut gratin; and of course, a slice of the tropical cheesecake. The resort is only a ten-minute drive from the airport and 15 minutes from the ferry terminal so island hopping is easy.
