This is Australia’s first dedicated art hotel and blends modern design and contemporary art to create a truly unique guest experience. The artworks in the common areas regularly change, making the hotel a rotating gallery of over 400 pieces.

Housed in the former H. Jones and Co. warehouse, a stay at Henry Jones is as much of an art experience as it is a walk back in time. Rooms showcase original nineteenth-century sandstone walls alongside contemporary furnishings. The hotel’s name is an abbreviation of Macquarie Wharf, the wharf on which the hotel sits on. All 114 suites at Macq01 have been dedicated to a different Tasmanian personality, with their story printed on the door to each suite. These range from a French-Canadian bodybuilder who claimed to have been Shirley Temple’s bodyguard, to Saroo Brierley, the real-life inspiration behind the Oscar-winning movie, Lion. These stories give guests a peek into Tasmania’s unique history.

Each suite has been filled with historical artefacts and artwork that continue to tell the story. This includes custom made bed heads and furniture, along with a book that documents the story of all 114 of the hotel’s characters. Premium suites include butler service, with most offering waterfront views.

Hobart may be Australia’s second oldest capital city, but at Hadley’s Orient, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to classical England. Built in 1834, this is one of Australia’s oldest boutique hotels and is even listed by the National Trust.
