Bali. It’s a beautiful place, but there’s no denying that it brings out the worst in tourists. The Slow is here to change that.
If your idea of a great Bali holiday includes guzzling as many Bintangs as humanely possible while moaning about the heat, then this hotel is not for you.
The recently opened hotel is the brainchild of former Ksubi founders, Gareth Moody and George Gorrow. With only 12 rooms, The Slow nails the formula of taking a step back and adopting the island way of life.[collage images="https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125019/bali-the-slow-bedroom.jpg,https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125020/bali-the-slow-chair.jpg,https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125019/bali-the-slow-brutalism.jpg" type="x3-collage"]
The Slow’s design can be described as ‘Tropical Brutalism’. This has resulted in the use of raw concrete paired with organic wood and furniture, custom made for the space. Greenery has been heavily incorporated, with over 80 native species planted both inside and out.
Accommodation-wise, the rooms have been impeccably designed. The Pool Suite features floor-to-ceiling windows, a walk-in rain shower, and a private plunge pool. Each room is home to rotating artworks from The Slow’s art gallery.
The hotel’s soundtrack comes courtesy of Reverberation Radio. New playlists are curated regularly by music industry heavy-weights, and are played throughout the entire hotel.[collage images="https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125017/bali-the-slow-restaurant-horizontal.jpg,https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125016/bali-the-slow-exterior-pool.jpg,https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125017/bali-the-slow-art.jpg" type="x3-vertical"]
There’s no real need to leave once you’ve arrived. Eat & Drink, The Slow’s eatery, plates up locally inspired dishes that look like they could have come from any Michelin starred restaurant. Dinner is served ‘Family Style’, and is designed to be shared. Expect dishes like market fish in buttermilk and charred corn with miso butter and shicimi spice.[collage images="https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125024/bali-the-slow-pool-chair.jpg,https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125023/bali-the-slow-drinks.jpg,https://media-magazine.trivago.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/03125021/bali-the-slow-dining.jpg" type="x3-collage"]
Moody and Gorrow have contributed their personal art collections to the hotel’s art gallery. The space includes works from Chris Searl, Xu Zhen and Mad Saki to name a few. Down the hall in Room 14, an area has been set up to house Moody and Gorrow’s latest collaboration, Non-Type. The brand focuses on fashion and lifestyle, and is sold exclusively within the hotel.
With only 12 rooms, you’ll have to get in quick.[button text="View hotel" href="https://www.trivago.com.au/?&iPathId=443427&iGeoDistanceItem=6062922&aDateRange%5Barr%5D=2018-07-20&aDateRange%5Bdep%5D=2018-07-22"]
