Our Favourite City Breaks

Maybe it’s time for a short getaway to get your mind off the business of everyday life. For those who don’t want to travel too far or carry their passports, a city break is just what you need. With so many acti...

on-packed cities scattered across Australia, the toughest decision will be which state to explore next.

Weekend staycation ideas

If you’re not fond of air travel or the tediousness of scheduling pit stops during a road trip, it is worth considering a staycation in your very own city. Pack an overnight (or two) bag and for your next weekend getaway, be a tourist in your own backyard. Melburnians can walk along the Yarra River, explore the city’s infamous laneways and end the day by swimming a lap or two in the hotel pool. Sydneysiders, too, can enjoy the sights and sounds harbourside, hop on a ferry and sit down for a scrumptious brunch in one of the city’s hip suburbs. And of course, dinner is bound to be at your hotel restaurant overlooking the wonderous Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Short breaks around the country

Maybe you’d prefer to explore a different part of the country. Spend a weekend sleeping in a treehouse in the Daintree Rainforest, lying by a lagoon pool in tropical Port Douglas or a luxurious stay in nature-filled Tasmania. If you want the bright lights of a city skyline, head to Brisbane for walks along the river to ANZAC Square in gloriously balmy weather and when the sun set, go and catch a game at the Gabba. Or how about a relaxing spa weekend with your best girlfriends in the slow-paced city of Perth. Nothing says rejuvenation like fluffy robes, champagne and chocolates!

With so many exciting Australian cities ready to be explored, why let international tourists have all the fun? Pencil in a city break or staycation for your next trip and enjoy the very best our cities have to offer.
